The “Ukiyoe Immersive Art Museum GINZA,” opening in Ginza, Tokyo, in spring 2027, will exhibit for the first time at “Tourism EXPO Japan 2026,” to be held at Tokyo Big Sight from Thursday, September 24 to Sunday, September 27, 2026.

The “Ukiyoe Immersive Art Museum GINZA” is the first permanent facility to be established in Ginza, Tokyo, as the culmination of the immersive art exhibition “Ukiyoe Immersive Art Exhibition,” which has attracted a cumulative total of over 700,000 visitors across 11 cities in Japan and abroad.

Drawing on over 300 works by world-renowned ukiyo-e artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Utagawa Hiroshige, Kitagawa Utamaro, Toshusai Sharaku, and Utagawa Kunisada, the museum uses cutting-edge 3DCG animation and projection mapping to present these works as innovative digital art that transcends generations and languages. It is an immersive, experiential digital art museum where visitors can immerse themselves in the world of ukiyo-e through eight three-dimensional visual spaces, each built around its own concept.

Centered on masterpieces of ukiyo-e—including “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” and “Clear Autumn Sky (commonly known as Red Fuji)” from Katsushika Hokusai’s “Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji”—visitors can fully appreciate the beauty of ukiyo-e through three-dimensional visuals, sound, and scent that envelop the space. Furthermore, the museum displays original ukiyo-e prints from the Edo period as well as reprints made from woodblocks carved in the Meiji era and later, with multilingual explanations in Japanese, English, Chinese, and other languages about the history of ukiyo-e, Edo culture, and the ukiyo-e artists.

In addition, the museum features a museum shop offering original merchandise created in collaboration with long-established brands, as well as a gallery where original ukiyo-e prints are displayed and sold, allowing visitors to experience Edo culture with all five senses and take a piece of it home.

Photography and video recording are permitted throughout the venue, allowing visitors to step into the fantastical world of ukiyo-e and capture the moment.

Set in Ginza, Tokyo—a destination that draws people from around the world, including international visitors and luxury travelers—the museum will combine cutting-edge technology with traditional Japanese art to offer an unprecedented immersive experience, while sharing with the world the profound depth of ukiyo-e, an art form Japan proudly presents to the world.

At the “Tourism EXPO Japan 2026” booth, an overview of the “Ukiyoe Immersive Art Museum GINZA” will be presented on an LED display, and novelty items will be distributed.
